The circle is closed

Back in Tokyo we spent one last day in this Megacity, my second home, before taking our flight back to Vienna.
A good-bye visit to Tsukiji Fish market culminated in the most delicious, incredibly tasty, simply perfect sushi I have ever had.
This is the place..

Fukuoka

Fukuoka/Hakata the funky southern city of Japan, the glowing metropolis of Kyushu.
Famous culinary speciality: Tonkatsu-Ramen, which is wolfed down by businessmen as well as construction workers in Ramen shops like this one..

Modern Art in the excellent Fukuoka Asien Art Gallery.

The peculiar Canal City of Fukuoka, a large Shopping/Entertainment complex.

Sunset over the Fukuoka Tower at the beach.

Going up Fukuoka tower high up in the skies over Fukuoka beach.

The one place to enjoy the best Tonkatsu-Ramen of your life!

Nightlife along one of the many canals.

Beppu

The mekka of hotspring, the hotspot for onsen.
This outdoor open-air rotemburo was affiliated to a small hearty down to earth restaurant.. and bathing was free if you have a meal there.
Here Phil and me soaking in the natural volcanic waters and enjoying the view over Beppu.

Nagasaki

Nagasaki, a lively and beautiful port city which is still today shadowed by the history of the horrible atomic bomb on August 9th 1945.

We were lucky enough to came exactly on time to witness the Chinese lantern festival that was celebrated in the chinese part of traditionally multi-cultural Nagasaki.

A Japanese dish called "tonkatsu" that provokes memories of sweet austrian cuisine back home.
In Vienna we call something very similar to this: "Schnitzel"!

View over nagasaki harbour and port are from the ropeway.

Tsuwano

Getting to know rural Japan in western Honshu.
This tiny, charming mountain town is set in a green valley, on which hills you can find this tranquil Inari shrine.

Hiroshima

An unforgettable tragedy in the past, which is brought back to life in great museums and rememberance halls but also nice parks, art galleries and the magic island of Miyajima..

The A-Bomb dome, the actually unchanged relicts of the atomic bomb blast in the sunlight..

..and at night.

The legendary floating torii of Miyajima, at night when the tide is low you can walk right through it in the marshy left behind by the ocean.

A traditional Japanese wedding in the shrine on Miyajima island.

Climbing the mountain on Miyajima island provides you with a perfect view of the inland sea and the bay.

Shikoku

This is Dogo onsen, the oldest hot spring resort of Japan.
People have been soaking in its hot wells for more than 3000(!!) years.

Shikoku's famous mountain vegetable cuisine: here Udon

Climbing Kompira-san in Kotohira does not necessarily require this pilgrim's stick.. but it makes climbing the hundreds of steps more of an authentic experience :)
